Enter your wall space, frame sizes, layout style, and spacing preference. The calculator returns the overall gallery footprint, side margins, top and bottom placement, a fit check, and a suggested hanging order — with a proportional visual preview and a full text summary.
How this tool works
Frames are laid out into rows and columns. Column widths and row heights are taken from the largest frame in each, spacing is added between them, and the resulting footprint is centered on the reference width. Top, bottom, and center placements are derived from your desired gallery center height.
Example: Six 16 × 20 in frames in a 3 × 2 grid with 3 in spacing form a 54 in wide by 43 in tall arrangement — comfortably centered above a 72 in sofa with about 9 in of margin on each side.
Assumptions used
- Frames are placed row by row, left to right, in the order entered.
- Each column is as wide as its widest frame and each row is as tall as its tallest frame.
- The arrangement is centered on the reference area you choose (the wall, or the furniture below).
- Gallery center height defaults to 57 inches, a common gallery eye-level standard.
Practical tips
- Cut paper templates and tape them to the wall before putting a single nail in.
- Keep spacing consistent — uneven gaps read as a mistake, even when frame sizes vary.
- A gallery above furniture usually looks best when it is narrower than the furniture below it.
- Hang the center or largest piece first and work outward.
