How this tool works

Each room's area is length × width. Rooms are summed for a net total. A waste allowance is added — either the recommended amount for your installation type or a custom percentage. Recommended purchase area is divided by square feet per box, then rounded up to the next full box.

Example: A 12 ft × 15 ft room (180 sq ft) with a 3 ft × 6 ft closet (18 sq ft) totals 198 sq ft. A straight install with 8% waste raises it to ~214 sq ft. At 22 sq ft per box, that's 10 boxes rounded up.

Assumptions used

• Rooms are treated as rectangles (length × width). Unusual shapes can be added as separate rooms or closets.
• Default waste allowance depends on the installation type. You can override this with a custom percentage.
• Box count is always rounded up so you don't run short mid-installation.

Practical tips

• Keep at least one full box unopened after installation for future repairs.
• Confirm the exact square feet per box on the product label — it varies by brand and plank size.
• Ask the retailer about lot numbers so future boxes match the color and pattern.
• For unusual room shapes, break the floor into rectangles and add each as a separate room.
