Consistent, material-appropriate care is the single biggest factor in how long furniture and mattresses stay comfortable and beautiful. In Florida, humidity, salt air, and UV compound quickly — a small monthly routine prevents years of avoidable wear.
- Never use glass cleaner
- Microfiber only, always damp
- Scratches can be polished out
- Keep it out of direct sun and heat
- Color looks flat, patchy, or dusty even after a quick wipe
- New creaks, wobbles, or loose fasteners
- A faint musty smell after closed-up periods
- Fabric or leather feels stiff, tacky, or unusually dry
- Keep the room between 68–76 °F with humidity around 45–55%.
- Rotate cushions, pillows, and accessories on a set weekly cadence.
- Block direct afternoon sun with shades, sheers, or UV film.
- Address spills and marks within the first 60 seconds — always blot, never rub.
- 1Vacuum or dust with a soft brush attachment to remove grit first.
- 2Spot-test any cleaner on a hidden area and wait 10 minutes.
- 3Work in small sections with a barely-damp microfiber, blotting outward.
- 4Rinse residue with a clean damp cloth, then dry with a fresh microfiber.
- 5Allow to fully air-dry away from direct sun before use.
Never use glass cleaner
Ammonia clouds and crazes acrylic permanently. Use warm water with a drop of dish soap, or a cleaner made specifically for acrylic.

Wiping dry acrylic drags grit across the surface and creates the fine haze that dulls a clear piece within a year.
Scratches can be polished out
Unlike glass, acrylic is repairable. A plastic polish and a soft pad removes light scratching completely.
Keep it out of direct sun and heat
Prolonged sun can yellow lower-grade acrylic, and heat warps thin panels. Cast acrylic holds up better than extruded.
- Dust and quick visual inspection
- Wipe high-contact surfaces with a dry microfiber
- Vacuum thoroughly including under and behind
- Check for loose hardware or joints
- Deep clean using material-appropriate cleaner
- Rotate cushions or accessories to even wear
- Professional deep clean or conditioning if applicable
- Full inspection, tighten fasteners, refresh protection
- Humidity spikes after storms — run dehumidifiers or A/C to hold indoor RH under 55%.
- Salt air within a mile of the coast accelerates corrosion and finish wear; wipe metal and hardware weekly.
- Snowbird and closed-up months are the highest-risk period; leave A/C on 78 °F and cover pieces exposed to direct light.
UV and sun exposure
Florida sun fades fabric, dries leather, and shifts wood color within a season. Sheers, UV window film, and rotating layouts twice a year spread exposure evenly instead of fading one panel while the rest stays new.
Well-cared-for pieces typically deliver 8–15 years of everyday performance. Investment-grade construction with a consistent routine routinely reaches 20+ years.
