Consistent, material-appropriate care is the single biggest factor in how long furniture and mattresses stay comfortable and beautiful. In Florida, humidity, salt air, and UV compound quickly — a small monthly routine prevents years of avoidable wear.

Solution-dyed is the distinction that matters
Standard acrylic is dyed after the yarn is made; solution-dyed acrylic has pigment locked into the fiber before it is extruded. Solution-dyed is the version that resists years of Florida sun and tolerates diluted bleach for mildew.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages: outstanding UV resistance, soft hand, mildew resistance, colorfastness. Disadvantages: it can pill, it holds oils, and it costs more than polyester. Outdoor-grade acrylic commonly runs 8–12 years in full Florida exposure.
Cleaning method
Brush off dry soil first, then wash with mild soap and water and rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear. Residual soap is what attracts new soil and creates the gray cast people mistake for fading.
Mildew reality
Mildew grows on the soil sitting on acrylic, not on the fiber itself. Regular rinsing is the actual prevention. On solution-dyed goods, a diluted bleach solution is generally permitted for stubborn mildew — always confirm on the maker's care card.
After deep cleaning
Cleaning removes the factory water-repellent finish. Re-apply a fabric repellent after any deep clean or the cushions will start soaking through in afternoon storms.
Florida considerations
This is the fiber to specify for lanai and pool seating. Pair it with quick-dry foam so the cushion core does not become the mildew problem the fabric avoided.

- Snowbird and closed-up months are the highest-risk period; leave A/C on 78 °F and cover pieces exposed to direct light.
Well-cared-for pieces typically deliver 8–15 years of everyday performance. Investment-grade construction with a consistent routine routinely reaches 20+ years.
