Consistent, material-appropriate care is the single biggest factor in how long furniture and mattresses stay comfortable and beautiful. In Florida, humidity, salt air, and UV compound quickly — a small monthly routine prevents years of avoidable wear.

Nubuck versus suede
Nubuck is sanded on the outer grain side, so it is denser and more durable than suede, which is split from the softer inner layer. Both have a nap; nubuck's is finer and holds up better to sitting.
Everything is dry care
Brush with a dedicated nubuck brush weekly to lift the nap and release grit. Vacuum with a soft brush head. Water is the enemy — even a damp cloth leaves a ring that has to be re-blended across the panel.
Protector spray is mandatory
A nubuck-specific protector applied at delivery and re-applied yearly is the single highest-value step. It buys you the seconds needed to blot a spill before the fiber absorbs it.
Fixing shiny spots and marks
Body oils flatten the nap into shiny patches on armrests and headrests. A nubuck eraser plus brushing restores most of it. Oil stains need absorbent powder overnight, then brushing — never soap.
Florida considerations
Humidity plus body oil equals matted nap and eventually mildew odor in seams. Keep indoor RH at 45–55%, and have nubuck professionally cleaned every 18 months in a coastal home.
Honest fit assessment
Nubuck is a poor fit for households with young children, indoor dogs, or heavy sunscreen use. It is an excellent fit for a formal room used a few times a week.

- Snowbird and closed-up months are the highest-risk period; leave A/C on 78 °F and cover pieces exposed to direct light.
