Consistent, material-appropriate care is the single biggest factor in how long furniture and mattresses stay comfortable and beautiful. In Florida, humidity, salt air, and UV compound quickly — a small monthly routine prevents years of avoidable wear.

- Address spills and marks within the first 60 seconds — always blot, never rub.
- 1Vacuum or dust with a soft brush attachment to remove grit first.
- 2Spot-test any cleaner on a hidden area and wait 10 minutes.
- 3Work in small sections with a barely-damp microfiber, blotting outward.
- 4Rinse residue with a clean damp cloth, then dry with a fresh microfiber.
- 5Allow to fully air-dry away from direct sun before use.
What suede is
Suede comes from the underside split of the hide, buffed to raise a nap. It is softer and more pliable than nubuck but also thinner, more absorbent, and quicker to show wear at contact points.
Dry care only
Brush weekly with a suede brush in one direction, then vacuum with a soft head. Never introduce water, never use soap, and never steam. Water marks on suede are permanent more often than not.
Spill response
Blot dry immediately. For grease, cover with cornstarch and leave overnight before brushing away. For anything else, stop after blotting and call a leather cleaner — home experiments are what turn a small mark into a replacement cushion.
Protection and prevention
Apply a suede protector at delivery and annually after. Keep it out of dining areas, away from sunscreen, and off the route between the pool door and the kitchen.
Florida realities
Humidity mats the nap and traps odors, and sunscreen is the single most common ruinous stain we see on suede here. If the room connects to the lanai, choose a performance fabric instead.
Lifespan and repair
Ten to fifteen years in light use, far less in a family room. Nap can be raised and re-blended by a specialist; lost color and worn-through splits cannot be fixed at home.

- Rotate cushions or accessories to even wear

- Full inspection, tighten fasteners, refresh protection
- Humidity spikes after storms — run dehumidifiers or A/C to hold indoor RH under 55%.
- Salt air within a mile of the coast accelerates corrosion and finish wear; wipe metal and hardware weekly.
- Snowbird and closed-up months are the highest-risk period; leave A/C on 78 °F and cover pieces exposed to direct light.
Well-cared-for pieces typically deliver 8–15 years of everyday performance. Investment-grade construction with a consistent routine routinely reaches 20+ years.
