How this tool works

Each box you create stores a box number, an optional name, a room, a priority, a status, and free-form notes, plus an unlimited list of item names entered one per line. Search performs a case-insensitive match across every item name and every box field at once and returns the matching boxes with their room and number, so an item lookup is a single step. Sorting reorders boxes by box number (numerically, so Box 2 precedes Box 10), room, priority, or status.

Example: Box 1 is the Kitchen and holds a coffee maker, coffee filters, mugs, paper towels, and tea. Two weeks after the move you search "coffee maker" and immediately see Box 1, Kitchen.

Assumptions used

• Boxes are saved to this browser using a private key held on your device, so you can return later and keep organizing.
• Search looks across every item in every box, plus box numbers, names, rooms, and notes.
• This is a packing memory aid, not a home inventory: no photos, receipts, serial numbers, documents, or values are stored.

Practical tips

• Write the box number on all four sides and the top. A number facing the wall is a number you cannot read.
• Enter items as you pack the box, not afterward. Five seconds per box saves an hour of searching later.
• Mark the first-night boxes with the First Night priority so they load last and come off the truck first.
• Keep item names simple. "Coffee maker" is easier to search than "kitchen small appliance, coffee".
