How do I prepare for a mattress delivery?

The path, the paperwork and the first-night steps that protect your purchase.

Key points

  • Measure the path, not just the room
  • Confirm haul-away and setup in writing at purchase
  • Inspect before signing — after the crew leaves, it is your problem
  • Protector on before the first night

Three service levels

Threshold drop-off leaves the mattress inside the front door. Room-of-choice carries it to the bedroom. White glove sets it up and removes the old one. They cost different amounts and are frequently confused at the point of sale — get yours in writing.

The day before

Twenty minutes of prep prevents a failed delivery.

  • Clear hallways, stair landings and the bedroom
  • Remove doors from hinges if the path is tight
  • Strip the old bed so haul-away crews will take it
  • Lay a drop cloth — condensation on plastic wrap can mark wood floors

First night

Unbag immediately so the mattress can expand, air it for a few hours, confirm the foundation meets warranty requirements, then fit the protector and make the bed. Give it thirty to sixty nights before judging firmness.
