Consistent, material-appropriate care is the single biggest factor in how long furniture and mattresses stay comfortable and beautiful. In Florida, humidity, salt air, and UV compound quickly — a small monthly routine prevents years of avoidable wear.

A dry or barely damp microfiber weekly removes the grit that scratches finishes. Actual cleaning is a monthly or quarterly task, not a weekly one.
Skip the silicone polish
Aerosol polishes containing silicone build a hazy film that traps dust and complicates any future refinishing. A damp cloth and a dry buff beat them for appearance and for resale.
Humidity moves wood, not products
Panel cracks, sticky drawers, and lifting veneer are almost always a humidity story. Steady 45–55% indoor RH prevents more damage than any bottle on a shelf.
Felt everything
Lamp bases, decor, laptops, and vases all scratch or trap moisture. Felt pads underneath and coasters under anything with a temperature are the entire prevention program.

- Vacuum thoroughly including under and behind
- Check for loose hardware or joints
- Deep clean using material-appropriate cleaner
- Rotate cushions or accessories to even wear
- Professional deep clean or conditioning if applicable
- Full inspection, tighten fasteners, refresh protection
- Humidity spikes after storms — run dehumidifiers or A/C to hold indoor RH under 55%.
- Salt air within a mile of the coast accelerates corrosion and finish wear; wipe metal and hardware weekly.
- Snowbird and closed-up months are the highest-risk period; leave A/C on 78 °F and cover pieces exposed to direct light.
Florida humidity baseline
Keep indoor relative humidity in the 40–55% range year-round. Above 60% invites mildew, warping, and musty odors; below 30% dries wood and loosens joints. A smart thermostat with humidity control or a stand-alone dehumidifier makes this effortless.
